Baking since 2022

"A trip to Italy changed everything. I discovered that real bread is made with just flour, water, salt, and time."

Hi, I'm Amy! I'm a home baker living in Wolverine Lake, Michigan, with my family and a very active sourdough starter named Madre.

In September 2022, I traveled to Italy with a church group. One of the ladies on the trip was gluten-intolerant, and to everyone's surprise, she could eat the bread there without any issues. Curiosity got the best of us, and we started looking into what made Italian bread different.

That's when I discovered sourdough, bread made from a naturally fermented starter, with simple, wholesome ingredients. It wasn't just delicious; it was a healthier way to bake. I came home inspired and started the journey of creating my own starter.

What began as an experiment quickly became a passion. I fell in love with the slow, meditative process, the way flour, water, and wild yeast transform into something beautiful. Friends started asking if they could buy my bread, and before I knew it, Amy's Sourdough was born.

Today, I bake from my home kitchen, crafting each loaf by hand using organic flour and wild yeast. I believe in slow food: bread that takes time to develop flavor, made with ingredients you can pronounce, and baked with love.

Thank you for supporting small, local bakers. Every loaf you order means the world to me.

What I Believe In

🌾

Quality Ingredients

Organic flour, filtered water, sea salt, and wild yeast. That's it. No preservatives, no additives.

Slow Food

Good things take time. Each loaf ferments for 48+ hours, developing complex flavors naturally.

🏠

Small Batch

Every loaf is shaped by hand in my home kitchen. I bake what I can, with care and attention.

Meet Madre

🫙

Madre, "Mother of all Starters", is my sourdough starter, a bubbly, active culture of wild yeast and beneficial bacteria that I've been nurturing since late 2022. She's the heart behind every loaf I bake, and her name is a nod to the Italian bread that started this whole journey.

I feed her twice a day with organic flour and filtered water, and in return, she gives me beautiful, tangy bread with an incredible rise.

She's been going strong since 2022!
